Standard Test Method for Rubber Property—Durometer Hardness

Scope:

This test method describes twelve types of rubber hardness measurement devices known as durometers:
Types A,B, C, D, DO, E, M, O, OO, OOO, OOO-S, and R.
Significance:
This test method is based on the penetration of a specific type of indentor when forced into the material under specified   conditions.
 The indentation hardness is inversely related to the penetration and is dependent on the elastic modulus and  viscoelastic behavior of the material.

I n Moulding process the rubber is Cured at high temperature and Pressure, the resulting Moulded parts are smaller in size than the actual. The Difference in the thermal expansion of the mold material result in shrink rate Shrink Rate= ( Cavity dimension- Part Length)/ Cavity dimension) (Typical units in/in) This shrinkage value is applied to the desired finished part size to “scale up” the cavity.
